Purpose: To report two cases of vitreous hemorrhage and hemiretinal vein occlusion after taking sildenafil (Viagra¢ç) in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
Case summary: A 38-year-old man (case 1) and a 43-year-old man (case 2) with diabetes visited eye clinic due to sudden visual disturbance after Viagra¢ç medication. In case 1, best corrected visual acuity was hand movement and vitreous hemorrhage was revealed in the right eye. Regular follow up with medication was scheduled. In case 2, superior hemiretinal vein occlusion was found with best corrected visual acuity of 0.3 in the left eye. Regular ocular exams and laser photocoagulation were performed because of non-perfusion areas in fluorescein angiography.
Conclusions: In cases of diabetic retinopathy, Viagra¢ç should be taken carefully because of the possiblity of Viagra¢ç related complications including vitreous hemorrhage and retinal vein occlusion.
